Google Analytics integration

Octopus.do can pull the numbers from your Google Analytics 4 property and show them right on the sitemap: views, users and average engagement time for every page over the last 30 days. The connection is made per project and the numbers live in SEO mode.

Who can connect it

  • Connecting, switching the property and disconnecting is the project owner's alone, on a paid plan — Pro or Team.
  • Seeing the numbers follows access to the project: editors, team members and anyone opening a share link see them too.

Connect

  1. Open the project and turn on SEO mode — the chart icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the artboard.
  2. Click Google Analytics in the top bar and press Connect.
  3. Sign in with the Google account that has access to the property, and allow Octopus.do to see your Analytics data. We ask for read-only access and never write anything to your Analytics.
  4. Back in Octopus.do, pick the property from the list and press Connect.

The list shows every property your Google account can read, so check the name before you pick one. The numbers appear next to the pages right after.

How pages are matched

A page gets its numbers by address: the URL in the page's SEO settings is compared with the page path in Google Analytics. The domain, the query string, a trailing slash and letter case are ignored — the rest has to match, nothing is guessed. To fill an address in, click the page in SEO mode and use the link field in the panel.

  • no URL — the page has no address yet.
  • no data — the address is there, but Analytics reported nothing for that path in the last 30 days. Usually the path differs from the live one, or the page really had no visits.

Refreshing the numbers

The report is cached for 12 hours. To pull it again right away, click the site name in the top bar and press Resync now — the line under the button tells you when the data was last synced.

Change the property or disconnect

Click the site name in the top bar and press Disconnect at the bottom of the window. That clears the connection for this project only; other projects and your Google Analytics account stay as they are. To move to another property, disconnect and connect again.

If the button in the top bar says Reconnect, Google stopped accepting our access — most often because Octopus.do was removed in your Google account permissions. Press it and pass the consent screen again.

Troubleshooting

  • No properties available for this Google account — the account you signed in with has no Analytics properties. Sign in with the right account, or ask the owner of the property for at least Viewer access to it in Google Analytics.
  • The Google Analytics button is grey and carries a Pro badge — the project belongs to a Free account. The integration is part of the paid plans.
  • Numbers show up on some pages only — see How pages are matched: those pages have a different address than the one Analytics reports.
